Marina

The Marina District is one of the northern districts of San Francisco.  The area is bounded to the east by Van Ness Ave, on the west by Lyon Street and the Presidio, on the south by Lombard St.  After the 1906 earthquake aside from the Palace of Fine Arts, all other buildings were demolished to make a residential neighborhood.

On a typical afternoon the street is a mix of tourists searching for Ghirardelli Square and the Golden Gate Bridge, residents of the Marina/Cow Hollow area, and families walking towards Moscone Park.  Moscone Recreation Center sports the largest children's park in the city and also has tennis courts, basketball courts, and a volleyball area.  It has served as a meeting location for generations of San Francisco natives, and can be seen in several historic films.

The Marina attracts many people who are seeking the pleasures of jogging, sunbathing, and strolling by the bay.  The Marina Green is a picturesque park and a wonderful place to enjoy the outdoors, with a pesestrian path that is perfect for rollerblading, walking or running.  The winds at the Marina Green lends itself to windsurfing at the nearby East Beach.

The Marina District has a unique blend of families and young professionals.  Marina is one of San Francisco's hot spots for upscale lounges, bars, great restaurants, and shopping on Chestnut St.
